KTGR is highlighting an outstanding local high school athlete each week!

This week features Battle junior high jumper Xavier Wandrey. In his first meet of the season last week, Xavier broke his own school record and state winning mark by clearing a height of 2.05 meters. That mark is the highest in the state of Missouri among all classes and the 25th highest in the country among high school high jumpers.

“From the first day he came out for track, Xavier had an energy and focus about him that has spread quickly to his teammates,” said Battle track and field coach Brian Hancock. “He is a consistent, quiet leader but when placed in competition, he is a fierce competitor that rises to any challenge. His determination and consistent effort has helped shape him into a great leader for our team and one of the best high jumpers in the country.”

The Battle track and field team will compete next on Friday, April 3 at Blue Springs South.
