KTGR is highlighting an outstanding high school athlete each week!
This week features Hickman sophomore wrestler Luke Hayden. In the last two weeks, Hayden helped the Kewpies to a team title at the Red Schmitt Holiday Tournament in Granite City, IL, winning the 165-pound championship with the most pins in the least amount of time in the tournament.
Hayden also defeated two nationally-ranked opponents to finish second at the prestigious Cheesehead Invitational in Kaukauna, WI last week.
“Luke is a grinder and silent leader,” said Hickman wrestling coach Dan Pieper. “Luke has a strong belief in his abilities mentally and physically. You don’t see kids like Luke come through a program very often. To win a state title at 165 pounds as a freshman is remarkably impressive. Luke is currently #1 in the state again as a sophomore at 165 pounds.”
Hickman wrestling is next scheduled to compete in the Marshall Tournament this Saturday.
