Wrestling 2023 NCAA Championship Seeding Announced

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri wrestling qualified all 10 starters for the 2023 NCAA Championship, nine with automatic bids, as seeding was released ahead of the event, slated to run from March 16-18 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

165-pound sophomore Keegan O’Toole received the highest seed assignment for Mizzou. The reigning national champion received the No. 2 seed, after placing second at the Big 12 Championships, on March 5. Classmate Rocky Elam followed with the No. 3 seed, the highest of his career, at 197 pounds. Elam is coming off the first Big 12 title of his career, and second conference championship overall. The Kansas City, Mo. native earned a fourth-place finish on the national stage in 2022. 

Redshirt junior and two-time All-American Brock Mauller was seeded at No. 6 at 149 pounds following his second-place finish at the conference championship. Mauller’s highest finish at the NCAA tournament was fifth in 2021. Also receiving top-10 seeding was redshirt junior Peyton Mocco as the No. 7 seed at 174 pounds, senior Allan Hart as the No. 8 seed at 141 pounds and redshirt junior Zach Elam as the No. 10 seed at 285 pounds. This is the fourth time qualifying for the NCAA Championship for all three Tigers, and the highest seeding of their careers for Mocco and Z. Elam. 

The Tigers also received automatic bids for redshirt sophomore Noah Surtin (No.14, 125 pounds), sophomore Colton Hawks (No. 22, 184 pounds) and redshirt senior Connor Brown (No. 27, 133 pounds). Surtin enters the tournament for the third time with a higher seed than his previous two, both being No. 18. Meanwhile, Hawks earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships after placing fourth in Tulsa just last week. 

Senior Jarrett Jacques received an at-large bid at 157 pounds and enters his fifth NCAA tournament as a No. 17 seed. 

The 2023 tournament begins Thursday, March 16, and concludes Saturday, March 18, and can be streamed on ESPN+.
