Columbia, Mo. – The Missouri women’s golf team fell just short in a late rally for the Johnie Imes Invitational title, finishing second of 13 programs at its home tournament.

Trailing by five strokes entering the final round and by as many as seven strokes during the third day, the Tigers and Lipscomb came down to the final holes to determine a champion. Mizzou briefly pulled even but the Bisons emerged with the win by two strokes, carding a four-under 860 to Mizzou’s two-under 862.

Mizzou finished with a two-over 290 during the final round, gaining three strokes on the champions and finishing with the second-best score of the round, one day after leading the field in the second round with a tournament-best 278.

Sophomore Melaine Walker finished as runner-up, matching the low round of the day with a two-under 70. Walker carded four birdies against two bogeys for the first top-five finish of her career.

Overall, four Tigers placed in the top 10 with five in the top 20. Jade Zamora earned her first collegiate top 10 by placing sixth overall at -1 (71-68-76). Emily Staples finished one spot below at seventh and even par (75-67-74), while Winnie Ng was 10th at one-over (74-71-72). Ffion Tynan rounded out the team’s top-20 performers at three over (74-71-74).

Up next for the Tigers is Evie Odom Invitational, starting on Friday, Oct. 6.
