The Mizzou women’s golf team improved its position by two spots on the final day of The Bruzzy, placing 10th overall in Oklahoma.

“We learn from every tournament and the positive from this weekend is that we finished with better scores each round,” said Missouri head coach Caroline Westrup. “The first round hurt our chances for a top finish but I’m proud of how we kept grinding in windy conditions and finished with our best day. We now have a week before the SEC Championship so we need to build off today and get ready with a strong week of practice.”

The Tigers shot a 294 on Sunday – improving from their 304 in the first round and 297 in the second round – for the eighth-best score in the third round of the 15 schools competing at The Bruzzy, a field which included six schools ranked in the top 50 nationally. Overall, the Tigers finished just one stroke behind No. 35 TCU and just four behind No. 36 Houston.

Two Tigers carded a 71 on Sunday to lead the team during the final round as Emily Staples and Melanie Walker led MU during its most productive day of the weekend.

Overall, freshman Kate Bibby led Mizzou with a 224 during the weekend, finishing with a 75 on Sunday. Staples was right behind with a 225, while Walker and Jade Zamora added a 226. Sophia Yoemans rounded out the weekend with a 231.

The final regular-season tournament of the year, the Tigers now turn their attention toward the SEC Championship, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 11.
