Women’s Basketball to Face Alabama in SEC Home Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Women’s Basketball will face Alabama at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Southeastern Conference home opener at Mizzou Arena. The contest will be broadcast on SEC Network.

Missouri is coming off a loss to No. 7 ranked LSU on Thursday.

Senior forward Hayley Frank led the Tigers with 22 points against the defending national champions. Frank currently ranks sixth on the program’s all-time scoring leaderboard. She stands 13 points shy of Sharon Farrah (1975-79) for fifth.

Mama Dembele carried her all-around play in the first conference matchup. The Missouri point guard scored 15 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

??Dembele currently ranks first in the SEC with 6.8 assists per game (10th nationally) and second in the conference with 3.5 steals (6th nationally)

Graduate forward Abby Feit contributed 11 points and seven rebounds to Mizzou’s effort.

Missouri has generated much of its offense from beyond the arc this year as the Tigers rank third in the SEC (31st nationally) in 3-point percentage (36.6%)  and 21st in the country (1st in SEC) with 9.0 makes per contest

Mizzou freshman guard Grace Slaughter ranks fourth among SEC freshmen in scoring at 11.0 points per game

Alabama enters Sunday with a 13-3 record including a 0-1 mark in SEC play following a loss to Ole Miss on Thursday.

Alabama is coached by Kristy Curry who is in her 11th year with the Tide. Curry has led her program’s to nine NCAA tournament appearances.

The Crimson Tide’s offense is headlined by senior guard Sarah Ashlee-Barker and senior forward Aaliyah Nye who average 15.5 and 12.8 points per game, respectively.

The Tigers are 6-5 in SEC home openers since joining the league prior to the 2012-13 season.

Sunday will be the 18th all-time meeting between the programs with Alabama leading the all-time series 9-8.
