Hannibal, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball team traveled to the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange University today for their last regular season contest before entering post-season play. Rolling through the Trojans 100-45, the Cougars claimed the American Midwest Conference Regular Season Championship title. With an overall record of 23-4 and an AMC league record of 18-2, the Cougars earn the #1 seed in the AMC tournament, and with that, the right to host the entire AMC tournament. Further, this marks the first time since the 2018 season that the Cougars have won the AMC Regular Season.

The Cougars took a quick 32-14 lead at the end of the first quarter before building that lead to 58-24 at the half. Columbia was a blazing 10-16 from beyond the arc in the first half.

Columbia did not let up as they surged in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 22-8. The Cougars put together a full game as they won the fourth quarter as well to finish the game 100-45.

Six different players finished with double-digit points for Columbia, highlighted by Mackenzie Hess’ double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Backes (12), Hannah Ferguson (12), Mallory Shetley (11), Peyton Crowe (11), and Allison Stiers (10) were all in double figures.

The Cougars finished the game going 15-30 from the three-point line, shooting 54% from the field overall. Columbia also dominated the boards as they out-rebounded HLGU 47-21.

Columbia now turns to the AMC tournament where they will host a quarterfinal contest on Friday, February 24th in Southwell Arena.
