Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Missouri Valley

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball team pulled off a substantial victory over Missouri Valley College Friday evening, 87-60. The Cougars improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Vikings fall to 3-3.
 
Columbia struggled to find their consistency in the first quarter, going just 5-14 from the field. Mackenzie Dubbert led the Cougars with six of their 14 points in the first period, knocking down a buzzer-beater from behind the arc to tie the score at the end of the quarter, 14-14.
 
A jump shot by Clare Shetley put Columbia ahead for the first time in the contest with 9:29 remaining in the half, 16-14. The Cougars went on an 8-0 run, starting with a layup by Allison Stiers, which extended the Cougar lead to 27-18. The Vikings came within three, but it was not enough as Columbia took a 37-30 advantage heading into halftime.
 
The Cougars took full advantage of their opportunities in the second half, beginning with a 15-0 run and two three-pointers by Stiers to increase the lead to 52-35. Columbia went up by as many as 24 points in the third quarter, concluding the period with a 66-45 edge. Mallory Shetley produced a team-high of 12 points in the third period.
 
Columbia ran away with the win and would take their largest lead of the game at 31 points. The Cougars defeated the Vikings, 87-60.
 
Key Moment:
Allison Stiers put the Cougars ahead 19-18 with a shot in the paint in the second quarter. This bucket would put Columbia ahead of Missouri Valley for the remainder of the game.

Allison Stiers produced 20 points for Columbia along with two steals, two assists, and five rebounds. Stiers went an outstanding 9-10 from the field and 2-2 from the arc.
