Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball earned their seventh-straight win with an 88-75 victory over the Eagles of Williams Baptist (Ark.).
The Cougars improve to 16-4 overall and remain unbeaten in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action at 9-0. Williams Baptist drops to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in league play.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, as a 13-8 Williams Baptist lead was the biggest advantage by either team. The Cougars were able to keep the Eagles within striking distance and led 26-23 as Abby Backes knocked down a triple with 14 seconds remaining.
The second stanza was all CC, as they outscored Williams Baptist 25-12. The Cougars received two free throws from Clare Shetley with 46 seconds left to give them their largest lead of the first half at 18 (51-33). The Eagles sank a layup with six seconds remaining, but CC led 51-35 at the intermission.
CC led by double-digits until the 2:20 mark of the third period when a WBU free throw cut their lead to nine points (59-50). The Cougars ended the quarter on a 6-1 run and led 65-51, heading into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the lead was never in doubt, as the CC lead reached as many as 23 (80-57) with 6:46 left in the game. The final deficit of 13-points (88-75) was as close as the Eagles would get.

With the game tied at 26-26 in the second quarter, CC went on a 15-2 run.
