Women’s Basketball Pushes Win-Streak to Five

Conway, Ark. – The Columbia College women’s basketball won their fifth-straight game as they edged out Central Baptist (Ark.) on the road, 66-62, on Thursday evening. 
 
Both teams struggled to find offensive traction in the first quarter, as Columbia led 12-8 after the first 10 minutes. Both teams combined to shoot 8-34 from the field and 3-15 from the three-point line. 
 
The squads would find their stride in the second quarter. CBC took a 16-12 advantage with 6:50 left, which sparked a 13-0 Columbia run. The Mustangs closed the gap to four points, but Columbia led by seven (36-29) at the break. 
 
Columbia tried to break away from the Mustangs in the third, as a 3-point from Mackenzie Dubbert extended the lead to 21 (52-31) with 4:43 remaining. The teams would trade buckets to end the quarter, and the Cougars led 57-38 with 10 minutes left. 
 
The Mustangs did not go away. CBC opened the final frame on a 19-4 and got within four points (61-57) with 2:14 left. The Mustangs cut the deficit to three (64-61) with under 10 seconds left, but Columbia escaped with a four-point win (66-62). 
 
Key Moment:
After a Central Baptist layup got them within three points (64-61) with eight seconds left, Mackenzie Dubbert knocked down a pair of free throws to seal the win.

14-16 – The Cougars made 14 of 16 free throws
15 – Columbia dished out 15 assists on 22 made baskets. 
22 – CBC scored 22 points in the paint, compared to 16 for the Columbia.
