COLUMBIA, Mo. – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced that University of Missouri women’s basketball is the organization’s national team of the week after knocking off No. 1 South Carolina.
The Tigers earned the program’s first victory over an AP No. 1 team on Thursday evening. Mizzou only had eight players available for the contest and played only seven. Hayley Frank and Lauren Hansen paced the Tigers with 21 points apiece. Hansen and Frank combined for all six points in overtime to give Missouri the victory. Each player set a new career high with over 40 minutes played.
Mizzou earned numerous weekly honors. Frank and Hansen shared SEC Player of the Week award while Head Coach Robin Pingeton was named Coach of the Week by both WHoopDirt.com and ESPN’s Mechelle Voepel. The Tigers are the third SEC women’s basketball program to have two players share the player of the week award and first since 2002.
