Women’s Basketball Moves to 2-0 in AMC Play

Fulton, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball team defeated the Owls of William Woods (Mo.), 73-40, on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars improve to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play. William Woods falls to 3-8 and 0-2 in league action.  

The Cougars got off to a strong start, taking an early lead of 9-0. Columbia pushed its lead to double digits at the halfway point of the first quarter, 13-3. The Cougars continued their dominance by shooting nearly 67-percent from the field and finished the quarter with a 20-8 advantage.

CC continued to extend the fun, pushing the lead to a first-half high of 17 (27-10) with eight minutes remaining in the half. A 9-2 run by William Woods cut their deficit to 11 with under a minute left, but Columbia took a 33-22 lead into the locker room. 

In the third quarter, Columbia used a 15-3 run to push its lead to 26 (55-29), but the Owls answered with a quick 6-0 run, making the score 55-33. CCC would add the last basket of the third and lead 57-33 with one period left. 

In the final quarter, the Cougars pushed the lead over the 30-point plateau (71-39) and defeated the Owls, 73-40. 

Key Moment:
Mackenzie Dubbert knocked down a three-pointer to begin that game, and the Cougars never looked back, leading for the entire 40 minutes.  

By the Numbers:
31-12 – The Cougars made 19 more field goals than the Owls
42-32 – Columbia outrebounded the Owls.
6-1 – The Cougars had five more 3-pointers than the Owls
7 – CC had seven different players score in the game.
