Women’s Basketball Knocks Off Unbeaten Grand View

Columbia, Mo. – The (RV) Columbia College women’s basketball team defeated Grand View (Iowa), 85-81, on Saturday afternoon. With this victory, the Cougars improved to 4-2 in the season, while Grand View was dealt their first loss and fell to 4-1. 

Columbia came out quick, scoring six of the first eight points of the game. With just under eight minutes in the quarter, Grand View went on a 14-0 scoring run to take the lead (16-8). The Vikings held onto their lead for the remainder of the opening frame. 

The Cougars continued to battle with the Vikings, but Grand Views’ lead reached double digits at the 1:59 mark of the second period (42-31). In the second quarter, Columbia shot almost 73-percent from the field (8-11, 72.7- percent), but Grand View held on to a 45-35 lead heading into the intermission. 

The Vikings did not hold back, pushing their lead to a game-high 15-points, 62-47, with 3:01 left in the third stanza. The Cougars immediately responded with 11-straight points to cut the Vikings lead to just four points going into the final quarter. 

Both teams battled to take the lead, with neither team holding a sizable advantage. With 3:40 remaining, the Vikings had a 78-74 lead, but the Cougars ended the game on an 11-3 run to edge out Grand View.

The Cougars ended the third quarter on an 11-0 run, cutting their deficit to four points (62-58) heading into the fourth quarter.
