Women’s Basketball Falls to Ole Miss

Women's Basketball Huddle

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri women’s basketball fell to Ole Miss, 66-45, Monday night at Mizzou Arena.

Senior guard Mama Dembele led the Tigers with 11 points, four steals and three rebounds.

Freshman guard Grace Slaughter recorded another double-digit scoring game, adding 10 points and four rebounds for Missouri. Slaughter has totaled 10 or more points in 12 of the last 13 contest

Sophomore guard Ashton Judd contributed 10 points and six rebounds on the night. Judd did not miss a shot attempt in the first half as she notched seven of her total.

Trailing after the opening basket, Slaughter got the scoring started for Missouri with a left-handed layup through the lane and Dembele went coast-to-coast following a steal to cap off a quick six-point surge to give the Tigers an early lead. Ole Miss strung together a response run late in the frame to take a 13-10 advantage.

Dembele opened the second quarter with a layup to cut the Mizzou deficit to one, but a 10-point run by the Rebels over the heart of the quarter extended the separation. Judd contributed four of her scoring total in the period. The Tigers clamped down around the basket and limited Ole Miss to just two points in the paint during the opening half.

Judd, Slaughter and freshman guard Abbey Schreake got loose for a trio of Tiger layups to change the momentum in the third. The open buckets were part of an 11-point run that saw Missouri close the gap to seven late in the quarter.

Ole Miss reset its offense in the fourth and opened on a nine-point charge. Dembele attempted to rally the Tigers with back-to-back fast break layups, but the effort was not enough as the Rebels held on for the victory.
