Women’s Basketball Ends Regular-Season with Road Win

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Columbia College women’s basketball team extended their win streak to six games with a hard-fought victory at Williams Baptist. 
 
The Cougars end the regular season with a 23-6 overall record and 16-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Williams Baptist falls to 14-15 overall and 8-10 in the conference. 
 
Williams Baptist came out strong, scoring ten of the first 12 points of the game. The Cougars fought back and tied the game at 13-13, with 4:16 remaining in the opening quarter. Columbia held their largest lead of the period of six points (21-15) as time reached 0:00. 
 
The Cougar lead reached double figures for the first time with 4:28 remaining the half, as a 3-pointer from Peyton Crowe gave CC a 33-23 lead. The teams would trade baskets, and CC took a 37-29 advantage into the half. 
 
In the third, Williams Baptist cut the deficit down to five (48-43) with just over three minutes left, but that was as close as they would get as Columbia hung on to a 12-point advantage after 30 minutes of play. 
 
The Cougar lead reached as many as 18 (65-47) before the Eagles started fighting back in the final quarter. Williams Baptist got within five points (76-71) with 14 seconds left, but Columbia closed the game out at the free throw, connecting on 3-of-4 in the final eight seconds.
 
Key Moment:
The Cougars found themselves down 10-2 early in the game, but a Mallory Shetley layup sparked an 11-3 run for the Cougars to tie the game.
