Women’s Basketball Completes Season Sweep of William Woods

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball completed the season sweep of the William Woods Owls with a 62-43 win on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Cougars improve to 17-5 overall and 10-1 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). The Owls fall to 6-15 and 3-8 in the AMC.
 
Columbia came out strong, scoring the game’s first seven points. WWU closed the gap to 10-7 with 4:39 left in the opening quarter, but the Cougars ended the quarter on an 11-0 run and led 21-7 at the end of the first.
 
The Cougar lead was never in jeopardy in the second quarter, as they held at least an eight-point lead the entire way. Columbia led by as many as 12 in the period. At the half, Columbia’s lead was 10, 31-21.
 
The third quarter saw the Cougar’s lead reach 18 (45-27) with 3:03 left. Columbia shot 47.1-percent in the period and outscored William Woods 20-7 to take a 51-34 lead into the final quarter.
 
Columbia scored the first four points in the fourth, as their lead passed the 20-point plateau for the first time in the game. The Cougars led by at least 17 points for the rest of the game.

Leading 10-7, Columbia ended the first quarter on an 11-0 run.
 
By the Numbers:
12-10 – Clare Shetley picked up another double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
3-19 – The Cougar defense held the Owls to 3-19 from the 3-point line.
15-4 – Columbia had 15 points off turnovers compared to just four for William Woods.
