Before becoming a nationally renowned coach, Weir paved his way in field events. He represented his home country of Great Britain at the 1984, 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games. At the Sydney Games, Weir was named captain of the Great Britain Track and Field Team.

His additional accolades include 12 national championships, six IAAF World Championship appearances and two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, winning the 1982 hammer and 1998 discus titles.

Weir began his coaching career at Stanford. From 2010-12 he served as an assistant coach at Oregon. During his time in Eugene, Ore., the Ducks claimed six conference championships and three NCAA team championships.

After a year as an associate head coach for Hawai’i, Weir served as an assistant coach at Clemson from 2013-17. He guided the Tigers to the Indoor and Outdoor ACC Championships in 2014.

Prior to his arrival in Columbia, Mo., Weir spent three seasons at Weber State (2017-20) where he coached Wildcat throwers to one All-America honor, four school records and 16 program top-10 marks.

The inductee amassed a Hall of Fame resume with SMU from 1981-84. He was a three-time NCAA champion and 10-time NCAA All-American with the Mustangs, setting the collegiate record in the hammer throw and the world record in the indoor weight throw.

Weir earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from SMU in 1985.

He joins Bobby Mills, Berit Puggaard and Katie Swords in his alma matter’s 2022 class.
