Weber Leads No. 24/23 Tigers to Extra Inning Win Over No. 6/8 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 24/23 Missouri softball (33-17, 12-9 SEC) took down No. 6/8 Alabama (39-10, 14-8 SEC), 3-2, behind an eight-inning gem from Jordan Weber. The junior matched her longest outing, going eight innings while allowing only two runs. 

RECAP

The Tigers jumped on top in the first inning. Brooke Wilmes reached on an infield single to get things started before Kimberly Wert drove a two-out, 1-1 offering to deep center to give Mizzou the lead at 2-0.

The Crimson Tide answered with a leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the first before Weber settled in to retire each of the next 11 batters.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Alabama was able to tie it up on a Bailey Dowling solo homer.

The Tide threatened again in the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff double. Weber was able to work out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts.

The Tigers put a pair of runners on base in the top of the sixth, as Brooke Wilmes singled and Kimberly Wert was intentionally walked. Mizzou was unable to push across the go ahead run, stranding a pair of runners on base.

Alabama put the walkoff run on base with a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh. After a sacrifice bunt moved her over to second, Weber got the next two runners to pop up to send the game to extras.

Jenna Laird and Brooke Wilmes got the Tigers’ rally started in the eighth with back-to-back singles. They moved over to second and third on a wild pitch but could not score on Chaumont’s chopper to third. Kimberly Wert was intentionally walked for the second time in a row, bringing up Kendyll Bailey with the bases loaded. Bailey drew a walk to give Mizzou a 3-2 lead. Alex Honnold hit a deep fly ball to left center that was caught on the warning track to end the inning.

Jordan Weber faced the top of the order in the bottom of the eighth. After retiring the first two batters in order, Shipman reached on an error to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Weber got her to ground out to second to end it.

NOTES

Jordan Weber moved to 13-5 on the season while matching her longest career outing. The junior struck out seven and walked one while allowing only five hits.

Brooke Wilmes extended her hitting streak to 11 games with a 3-for-4 night.

Jenna Laird scored the game winning run after hitting a single in the eighth. She went 1-for-3 with a walk to extend her hitting streak to seven games.

Kimberly Wert hit the 60th home run of her collegiate career and her 55th at Missouri. She surpassed 50 RBI for the first time in her career.

Mizzou picked up its first win against Alabama in Tuscaloosa since 2016.
