Tigers Win Three Events on Day One

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Missouri track and field is off to a strong start at the Crimson Tide Invitational with top-5 placings in eight of eleven events Friday evening.

NOTABLE FINISHES

The Tigers had a strong showing in the triple jump. Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) won the men’s event with a mark of 15.79m (51-9.75) and Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) won the women’s event with a mark of 13.43m (44-0.75). Mirieli Santos (Mato Grosso, Brazil) and Mara Hausler (Stralsund, Germany) placed second and third with marks of 12.92m (42-4.75) and 12.71m (41-8.5).

In her first time in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase this season, current Mizzou record holder, Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.), won the event with a time of 10:22.04.

Competition will resume Saturday with women’s discus throw at 9 a.m. and track events starting at 1 p.m.
