Tigers Welcome Wichita State to Mizzou Arena Friday

COLUMBIA, Mo. — After a weekend in Jacksonville, Fla., including a thrilling overtime win against SMU, the Mizzou men’s basketball team returns to Mizzou Arena, Friday, Nov. 26 against Wichita State. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. tipoff on SEC Network, with Mizzou alum Tom Hart and Mark Wise on the broadcast team.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

  • Kobe Brown is having a standout junior season, leading the SEC in field goal percentage (.630) and having a team-best 16.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
  • Brown has scored double-digits in every game this season, including a career-high 24 points against SMU.
  • Ronnie DeGray III continues to be a spark off the bench for the Tigers, averaging 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game with an average of three offensive boards per game.
  • Despite ending the tournament against a tough Florida State squad, Mizzou showed what its offense was capable of in a second-half comeback against SMU.
  • The Tigers entered the final 10 minutes of the game against SMU down by as much as 13, before tying the game with 30 seconds left and outscoring the Mustangs 18-13 in overtime.
  • Mizzou went 12-of-12 at the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes of the game plus the overtime period.

THE SERIES

  • The once dormant Tigers-Shockers series resumed last year for the first meeting between the two programs since 1951.
  • Mizzou had a 10-point road win last season against Wichita State, who went on to make the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Brown scored 14 in the game and tallied a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Prior to last season, the two programs had not faced off since 1951.  
  • Missouri holds the 4-0 all-time lead in the series, including three wins in Columbia.

SCOUTING WICHITA STATE

  • Friday’s game will be a matchup against scrappy teams, with both teams holding opponents to an average of less than 69 points per game.
  • Tyson Etienne, the 2021 AAC Co-Player of the Year, continues to be a standout for the Shockers. He enters Friday’s game averaging 18.8 points per game. He leads the American with 3.25 three-pointers per game.
  • Wichita State is coming off a challenging weekend, where they dropped an overtime contest to Arizona before escaping with a win against UNLV on a pair of free throws by Etienne with three seconds left.

UP NEXT

Mizzou has back-to-back home games with a Nov. 29 contest against Paul Quinn College. The game is slated for 7 p.m. on SECN+.
