Tigers Lead the Way After Day One of Home Event

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri women’s golf team rounded out the opening day of their home Johnie Imes tournament at the top of the leaderboard with a 7-stroke lead, shooting a 2-over 290.

The Tigers were led by junior Emily Staples who sunk back-to-back birdies in her final two holes to end with a 1-under 71, tying for third place and marking her fifth career round under-par. Senior Sophia Yoemans tallied 17 pars on the day, finishing with a 1-over 73. Both graduate student Sky Sload and freshman Melanie Walker also fired 1-over 73s in their debut rounds as Tigers. Sload caught fire on the back-nine, shooting a 2-under 34. All three enter tomorrow starting at T-7. Freshman Addie Dobson rounded out the lineup with a 3-over 75, ending tied for 18th place.

Freshman Jade Zamora and senior Olivia Sowers led Mizzou’s individuals, each posting a 7-over in their opening round. Senior Brianne Bolden shot 9-over, while sophomore Julie Huggins finished with a 12-over.
