Tigers’ Exhibit Final Round Surge

Jack Lundin

OPELIKA, Ala. — The University of Missouri men’s golf team closed out the Auburn Tiger Invitational Monday afternoon tied for 7th place (288-293-293 — 874 (+10))  amongst the competitive 16-team slate. The team showcased a big push at the end with five of six players shooting under-par, sinking a total tally of 19 birdies on the back nine. The Tigers were paced by sophomore Jack Lundin who finished tied for 12th after signing off on his fifth event under-par with a 1-under 215. The originally planned three-day event was condensed into two after reports of anticipated inclement weather ahead.

Lundin came out strong in the event’s first round, firing a 4-under 68 to tie for the third-lowest score of the day. He went on to card a 2-over 74, followed by a 1-over 73 in the final round which featured five birdies in the stretch of his last eight holes. This marks his fifth top-20 finish of the season.

“Yesterday and today I just really tried to trust my game plan and that was just to have no chips. The first round, I hit 16 of 18 greens and just focused on hitting the greens and putting really well. The second and third round didn’t have that nearly as much but I stayed patient and knew the back nine had its opportunities,” said Lundin.

Moving up the leaderboard today was Jack Parker who closed the event with an even-par 72 to compliment his opening 3-over 75 and 1-over 73. Parker climbed 14 spots from the first day to finish at T-34 with a 4-over 220.

Not far behind was junior Yu-Ta Tsai who was soaring steadily through the second round after sinking two eagles to post an even-par 72. He sandwiched that with a 1-over 73 and 4-over 76, respectively to claim a piece of 39th place.

One stroke behind Tsai was senior Tommy Boone who finished with a 6-over 222 after also starting with an even-par 72. He placed tied for 46th while junior Charlie Crockett rounded out the lineup tied for 62nd place with an 8-over 224.

Competing as an individual, freshman Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson signed off on his fifth-round under-par this season in the final round with a 1-under 71. He finished with a 15-over 231 at T-78.

HEAR FROM CO-HEAD COACH LEROUX:

“Yesterday, they played so well and were so disciplined. It was awesome. I couldn’t have been prouder. They beat the entire field on the par threes. Today, I looked at the leaderboard and knew we weren’t playing well on the front, but that there were some holes on the back that we could do well on. The guys just started lighting it up. They were making birdie after birdie. It was just great to see them finish like that.”
