Tigers Dominates During Day One of Mizzou Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball (3-2) dominated in a pair of matches, 3-1 to Abilene Christian and 3-0 to Missouri State on Friday, Aug. 2 to open the home portion of the 2022 season at the Mizzou Invitational.

Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Cox led the Mizzou attack in each match to push the Tigers over both the Bears and Wildcats.

Mizzou topped the Wildcats in the home opener 22-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13, Cox rode a 21-kill performance. The Wildcats were led by Londyn Gray with 7 kills.

The Tigers used a strong serve to keep pressure on the Tigers, recording eight aces in the match. Mizzou serve also kept ACU out of system, leading to 10 total blocks for the Tigers.

Sophomore Trista Strasser led all players in the match with 6 blocks.

In the nightcap, Mizzou offense came out firing 25-15, 25-17, 25-17, affair to Missouri State. Senior

Anna Dixon led the Tigers 14 kills. Cox added another 13 kills to the Mizzou effort.

• Cox matched her career-high of 21 kills in the match against Abilene Christian.
• Freshman Estella Zatechka and Janet deMarrais made their debut in Black &Gold. Zatechka had a stellar debut recording 16 digs, and one ace. While deMarrais recorded her first kill as a Tigers in the evening match.
• Cox recorded a double-double in both matches. This marks Cox third consecutive and tenth in the Tigers young career.

“Great day of volleyball in the Hearnes! Our group put in a ton of work this week in practice and that showed in both contests today. We are a better team this week than we were last week. Im really proud of the team and looking forward to tomorrows match!”

The Tigers continue the Mizzou Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Northwestern State. First Serve is slated of 12:30 P.M.
