Three Wrestlers Selected as Academic All-District Honorees

WR Academic All-District 22-23

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Wrestling team saw three Tigers earn Academic All-District selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) Tuesday, May 23. Redshirt junior Peyton Mocco, redshirt sophomore Noah Surtin and sophomore Keegan O’Toole all receive the honor for the first time in their careers.

The 2022 Academic All-District® At-Large Team, selected by CSC, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

The 2022-23 season was a breakthrough campaign for Mocco, who capped his year with his first-career All-American finish, taking eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championships. The West Allis, Wis. native had a 23-7 overall record and was the only starter to wrestle 30 matches this season. Additionally, the redshirt junior accumulated 240 points, the most by any Tiger this season.

Whenever Surtin stepped on the mat in 2022-23, he was a threat to rack up bonus points for the Tigers. The redshirt sophomore finished with a 17-7 record, closing the year with a team-leading 14 bonus-point victories and a .583 bonus-point percentage. The Edwardsville, Ill. product also led the team with seven wins by pin, earning him the Ben Askren Most Falls Award at the end of the season.

Solidifying the repeat, O’Toole was crowned the 2023 National Champion at 165 pounds for the second consecutive season. The Hartland, Wis. native finished the 2022-23 season 20-2. In his third season as an All-American, O’Toole totaled 13 bonus-point victories and 13 wins over ranked opponents. Additionally, the redshirt sophomore led the team with 79 takedowns across the season, averaging 3.59 takedowns per match, while topping Mizzou in total riding time with over 41 minutes.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees being announced in June.
