Three Mizzou Men’s Swimmers Punch Tickets to NCAAs

COLUMBIA, Mo. ­– Three members of the No. 14 University of Missouri men’s swimming teams claimed individual bids to the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced on March 9.

Seniors Danny Kovac and Jack Dahlgren and junior Ben Patton will represent the Tigers from March 23-26 in Atlanta.

Mizzou is also eligible to swim in all five relays: 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.

The Tiger divers are competing for NCAA bids at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships in Madison, Wis., through March 9. Sophomore Takuto Endo has already earned a berth on 3-meter.

Kovac earned berths in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 100 fly. He is seeded 12th, 13th and 18th in those events, respectively. Kovac claimed first-team All-America honors in the 200 IM and 100 fly and All-America honorable mention honors in the 200 fly last season. He also holds the school records in all three events.

Dahlgren’s bid also marks the fourth of his career. He earned qualifications in the 200 free and 200 back, seeded 10th and 30th, respectively. He is also invited to swim in the 50 free. At last season’s championships, he earned All-America honorable mention honors in both the 200 back and 200 free. Dahlgren ranks second all-time at Mizzou in the 200 free and 200 back.

Patton claimed his second NCAA berth, with bids in the 100 breast and 200 breast. He is seeded 13th in the 100 breast and 25th in the 200 breast. Patton is also invited to swim in the 200 IM. He earned All-America honorable mention honors in the 100 breast at last season’s championships. Patton ranks second all-time at Mizzou in the 100 breast and third all-time in the 200 breast.
