Tennis Topped In SEC Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – On the opening day of Southeastern Conference play for both teams, University of Missouri tennis fell 4-0 at No. 20 Tennessee in a match that was much closer than the scoreboard showed.

Mizzou (9-4, 0-1 SEC) dropped a pair of close doubles decisions by 6-4 margins and couldn’t quite capture the momentum in singles, dropping matches at No. 6, 4 and 2, respectively. 

Mae Canete took the first set at No. 1 singles, Emelie Schwarte forced a third set at No. 3 singles and Gabriela Martinez won the opening frame at No. 5 singles in unfinished matches. Laura Masic made a late surge at the No. 2 singles spot, but fell 6-4 in the second set.

Tennessee (8-2, 1-0 SEC) won its sixth-straight match against the Tigers and took an 8-2 lead in the all-time series.
