Tennis Sweeps Bellarmine In Saturday DH

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis continued its winning ways to start the 2022-23 campaign, winning a pair of matches over Bellarmine by identical 7-0 margins, Saturday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.

For the second-straight match, Mizzou (4-0) faced some weather as the day started out brisk and ended up much warmer by the time the afternoon session ended. The Tigers took two of three doubles matches in both the morning and afternoon. Mae Canete and Inah Canete won two matches at No. 1 doubles and Emelie Schwarte and Gabriela Martinez earned a victory at No. 3 doubles in the morning and No. 2 in the afternoon.

Schwarte got her first opportunity at No. 1 singles in the morning match and won 7-5, 6-1. She also won her match at No. 2 singles in the afternoon 7-6 with an 11-9 tiebreaker and 6-4. 

The Tigers swept the singles competition and in addition to Schwarte, Mae Canete, Laura Masic, Inah Canete, Martinez and Koral Koldobski each won a pair of events.

“Great day for Tigers tennis! Weather was tough today with a change of 30 degrees from start to finish. The team showed how tough, gritty and relentless they have become since the beginning of the season. A nice step forward for the entire team and a huge shoutout to Mizzou staff and fans who came out in big numbers to support today!!! Looking forward to to a huge challenge on Sunday against very good, well-coached Omaha team.”

UP NEXT
The Tigers continue a six-match homestand to open the fall with a Sunday doubleheader against Omaha. Action at Mizzou Tennis Complex will start at 9 a.m. CT with the second match at 1 p.m.
