PHOENIX — The University of Missouri women’s tennis team kicks off the spring season by traveling to Phoenix to face off against Grand Canyon University on Tuesday, Jan 9, at the Colter Tennis Facility and Fields.

The Tigers will begin play at 4 p.m. CT with three doubles matches, followed by six singles matches. This dual will mark the first contest against the Antelopes in Mizzou’s program history.

Mizzou closed its fall season at the Drake Invite, competing against the University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, and Drake University, picking up seven wins from the weekend with four singles and three doubles victories.

Additionally, senior Mae Canete and junior Inah Canete competed at the ITA Fall Regional Championships and defeated Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander of Brown University to advance to the quarterfinals. The duo lost a hard-fought battle in the round of 16 to the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the country, University of North Carolina’s Elizabeth Scotty and Reese Brantmeier.

“The team is excited and getting ready for the first match of the season against GCU. We are practicing outdoors on Arizona State University courts. I can’t wait to get on court on Tuesday to watch the girls compete and coach them,” Head Coach Bianca Turati said.
