Tennis Finishes Day Two of Play at ITA Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Missouri women’s tennis team wraps up the second day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Center today, Oct. 13. Mizzou picks up five wins for the day – two doubles victories and three singles. 

The doubles duo of senior Mae Canete and junior Inah Canete triumphed over Veronika Kulhava and Tereza Polakova, hailing from Kansas State University (8-2). Advancing to the second round, the doubles team added another victory against Valerie Negin and Malvika Shukla of Creighton University (8-7, [7-5]). 

Doubles pair Sophia McLellan/Andrea Artimedi and Romary Cardenas Rifka/Gabriela Martinez Asensi also saw action today against Oklahoma and Nebraska, respectively. Cardenas posted a win for today against Vivian Lai of SEMO (6-3, 6-7, (4) 10-8) in the consolation draw.

Kicking off the first round of singles, I. Canete secured a win against Kristina Kudryavtseva of Wichita State (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) to move on to the second round of singles for the day. The junior was ultimately defeated by Anet Koskel of Arkansas (7-6 [9-7], 4-6, 6-2). 

After a bye in the first round, M. Canete snagged a win against Laura Baroja of UMKC (6-1, 6-2), which would send her to face off against Malvika Shukla tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. The Canete pairing is set to compete against Anfisa Danilchenko/Ana Carmen Zamburek tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Round of 16.

UP NEXT

After wrapping up the ITA Regional on Monday, Oct. 16, the Tigers will hit the road to attend the UCA Invitational hosted by Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark., from Friday, Oct. 27 – Saturday, Oct. 28.
