CAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Missouri tennis team fell on the road at Illinois, 6-1 on Sunday, Jan. 14. Mizzou (0-2) still searches for its first win in the young season, while Illinois (1-0) starts the year with its first match victory.

Missouri started the morning match strong, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the point. The No. 16-ranked sister pairing of senior Mae Canete and junior Inah Canete start the season undefeated in the one spot (2-0), winning 6-4. Meanwhile, the No. 3 duo of sophomore Andrea Artimedi and graduate student Emelie Schwarte earned a win of their own to begin 2-0, besting their Illini opposition 6-4 as well.

Heading into singles action ahead 1-0, the Tigers could not seize the momentum. Graduate student Gabriela Martinez lost a tough three-set battle but could not come away with the win.
