Swim and Dive’s Andrew Sheldon Promoted to Assistant Coach

COLUMBIA, Mo. –  University of Missouri Swim and Dive’s Andrew Sheldon has been promoted to assistant diving coach, program head coach Andrew Grevers announced on Friday.

Sheldon spent the 2022-23 season as a volunteer assistant.

“Mizzou has provided me a home and a family,” said Sheldon. “It is a place where I can both grow as a coach and a person.”

Hailing from Davidson College, Sheldon began his career with the Wildcats in August of 2019 and signed as the first-ever scholarship diver in the school’s history, launching the team with zero divers on the roster. Sheldon was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week and earned the accolade of being the highest-scoring male freshman at Davidson College in the 2020 A-10 Conference Championship Meet. During his final year with the Wildcats. 

Shelton ended his career as the team captain for the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team and helped grow the program eight-fold within his last year. In his final meet with Davidson College, Sheldon secured a 12th-place finish on both 1M Diving and 3M Diving events at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, posting scores of 234.55 and 246.35 respectively. He left a legacy of ten divers during his four years with the program with two being Atlantic-10 Conference champions and four NCAA Zone qualifiers.

Prior to his collegiate diving career, Sheldon was a two-time 6A Georgia High School Association State Champion at North Atlanta High School, along with being the first-ever for both North Atlanta and Atlanta Public Schools. With his athletic and coaching career backing him up, Sheldon 

Most recently, Sheldon spent time as an assistant coach with Moss Farms Diving, a premier diving club program located in Moultrie, Ga. There, he implemented the “Seven Step Concept” dive analysis system when coaching athletes and leading planning for diving clinics.

“I will fight for every chance to support the staff and the athletes following the commitment they made for me during my stint as the volunteer coach,” said Sheldon. “I look forward to all the fond memories I will make here with this team! MIZ!”

Sheldon earned his Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, specializing in Higher Education and Athletics from Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. in May of 2023.
