Swim and Dive Wraps Up First Day of Mizzou Invite

Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri Swim and Dive wrapped up day one of the three-day Mizzou Invite Wednesday inside the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

The Tigers, alongside Texas Christian, herald the top spots in both team standings. Through 14 of the arrangement’s 42 events, the women’s team sits second with 316.5 points, behind TCU’s 353.5 standing. The men’s squad leads comfortably with 435, while the Horned Frogs amassed 272.5.

Missouri took the top spot of the podium in seven events, beginning with the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle relays. The women’s A-team 1:29.17 pacing currently ranks fifth nationally, while the B-team’s mark of 1:30.52 ranks 11th.

In the individual events, four wins and nine podiums ensued for MU. Taylor William’s earned gold with a season-best 52.36 in the women’s 100 fly, Jane Smith won the women’s 500 free by coming within tenths of a second of her career-high, and Francesca Smith topped the women’s 50 free with a 22.57, beating her career-fasted time twice on the day.

For the men, Will Goodwin conquered the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.17, just 0.12 off of the graduate’s career-best. In prelims, Collier Dyer paced the competition with a one-meter mark of 373.65, besting his career high and moving up to seventh on the all-time list at Mizzou. He finished the day in third.

NOTABLE RESULTS

  • The Tigers took first and third in the women’s 200 free relay.
  • Mikolaj Malec placed second in the men’s 500 free with a time of 4:23.40
  • Mizzou swept the podium in the women’s 50 free. Francesca Smith (22.50), Zara Zallen (22.60), Sierra Smith (22.67).
  • Grant Bochenski took second in the men’s 50 free with a time of 19.69.

Day two of the Mizzou Invite proceeds tomorrow morning with prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. from inside the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Day two finals follow at 5:30 p.m., and all results can be found via the Meet Mobile App.
