Swim and Dive Completes Mizzou Invite

Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri Swim and Dive completed the Mizzou Invite Friday inside the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Tigers went on to claim 17 victories in 42 events throughout the week’s competition.

The invitational’s third and final day gifted the hosts with seven more wins and 15 more appearances on the podium. Mizzou swimmers also logged 15 times ranked top 25 nationally, including eight marks that eclipsed the top 10.

Before swimming finals commenced, Collier Dyer took care of business in the men’s platform dive, putting up the fifth highest score in the nation so far (317.85) en route to claiming today’s gold medal.

Jane Smith got Friday’s swimming finals started by posting a 16:25.29 in the 1650 free (mile), not only taking home gold, but posting the top time nationally and increasing her personal best to reach fifth all-time in school history. Chloe Mudadu followed with a 16:37.89, earning her bronze and the fourth fastest time nationally, with Peyton Drexler’s time of 16:47.17 is seventh nationally.

Mikolaj Malec, Sierra Smith, Will Goodwin and Taylor Williams continued the team’s momentum with individual victories of their own.

Malec’s time of 1:43.03 in the 200 back is 19th nationally, Smith’s mark of 48.98 in the women’s 100 free is 15th nationally, Williams’ clip of 1:55.88 in the women’s 200 fly is 11th nationwide and Goodwin’s 1:54.01 standing in the men’s 200 breast is fourth nationally.

The two 400 free relay A-teams finished the meet emphatically for MU. The men’s squad featuring Bochenski, Daniel Wilson, Calvin Windle and Samuel Brown clipped a 2:53.24 to bring home silver and stand sixth nationally.

Furthermore, the women’s side featuring S. Smith, Williams, Zara Zallen and Francesca Smith came home in 3:15.65, taking the top spot of the podium and ringing in the third fastest time in the country.

NOTABLE RESULTS

  • In the men’s 100 free, Bochenski and Wilson were seven-hundredths of a second apart, finishing in 43.00 and 43.07, respectively. The times earned them second and third in the event as well as 11th and 12th nationwide.
  • F. Smith’s mark of 49.28 earned her a silver medal in the women’s 100 free.
  • Emily Roden and Jan Zubik each climbed to the second spot on the podium in the 200 fly, returning times of 1:56.39 (12th nationally for women) and 1:43.26 (sixth nationally for men), respectively.
  • In the men’s 200 breast, Logan Ottke penciled in a 1:56.06, earning bronze and ranking 13th nationwide.

UP NEXT

The Tigers are back in the pool tomorrow morning for the Mizzou Long Course Trials Qualifier, where swimmers log times in efforts to qualify for the Olympic Qualifiers next summer. The first event kicks off at 9 a.m., and results can be found via the Meet Mobile app.
