Stellar Pitching and Timely Hitting Lifts Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep

Columbia, Mo. – Great pitching and timely hitting led the Columbia College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Viterbo on Monday afternoon.
 
The Cougars are now 14-3 on the season, while Viterbo drops to 7-10.  
 
Series Results:
Game 1 (Monday): Columbia def. Viterbo, 4-0
Game 2 (Monday): Columbia def. Viterbo, 3-2
 
Game 1: Columbia def. Viterbo, 4-0
The Scoring:

  • B1 (CC) – Kellen Williamson scored on a Viterbo error (CC 1, VU 0)
  • B3 (CC) – Williamson crossed home on another V-Hawks error (CC 2, VU 0)
  • B4 (CC) – Bryce Torricelli singled home two runs (CC 4, VU 0)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Teagan Woods led the Cougars with two hits.
  • Six Cougars had one hit each.
  • Bryce Torricelli drove in two runs
  • Dan Fick went the distance on the mound, earning his third win of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.

 
Game 2: Columbia def. Viterbo, 3-2
The Scoring:

  • B5 (CC) – Jarrett Newell singled to center, bringing home Myles Jasper (CC 1, VU 0)
  • T6 (VU) – The V-Hawks scored a pair of runs to take the lead (CC 1, VU 2)
  • B6 (CC) – Columbia tied the game on a Devyn Lopez sac fly scoring Kellen Williamson (CC 2, VU 2)
  • B7 (CC) – Braden DeSonia laced a single down the left field line to give Columbia the walk off winner. David Dell scored on the play (CC 3, VU 2).

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Jarrett Newell went 2-2 at the dish with an RBI.
  • Kellen Williamson, Myles Jasper, and David Dell scored runs.
  • Braden DeSonia, Devyn Lopez, and Newell picked up RBIs.
  • Alex Grellner picked up his second win of the season, tossing 0.2 innings and striking out one batter.
  • Bryce Taylor started on the bump, going 5.0 innings without allowing a run and sticking out nine.
