Spencer Miles Selected in Fourth Round of MLB Draft

MLB Draft 2022

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri pitcher Spencer Miles was selected in round four of the 2022 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants.

Miles was the 136th overall pick and the first Tiger off the board in the 2022 draft. The selection of the junior and Columbia native marks the 27th consecutive season a Mizzou player has been drafted.

Miles joins a long history of Tiger pitchers in the draft, marking the 26th-straight year with a Mizzou arm going in the draft. He is the 10th Mizzou pitcher to be drafted under head coach Steve Bieser. Miles is the fifth pitcher to go in the first four rounds since 2017, joining Ian Bedell (2020), TJ Sikkema (2019), Michael Plassmeyer (2018) and Tanner Houck (2017).

The junior closed the 2022 season with a career performance at Georgia, working seven strong innings of two-run baseball while striking out a career-best 12 Bulldogs. The outing marked a second-straight quality start to cap the season after Miles worked six innings of three-run ball against Florida. The right-hander led Mizzou with career-high 69.2 innings of work in 2022 and 67 strikeouts.

The 2022 MLB Draft concludes Tuesday afternoon with rounds 11-20. Live coverage is available on MLB.com.
