Softball Runs Win-Streak to Six

St. Louis, Mo. – Playing in St. Louis, Mo. for the second-straight day, the Columbia College softball team improved to 6-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with a doubleheader sweep against Health Sciences & Pharmacy (Mo.).

Game 1: (21) Columbia def. Health Sciences & Pharmacy, 9-0
The Scoring:

  • T1 (CC): Athena Wheeler hit a solo home run (CC 1, UHSP 0)
  • T3 (CC): Wheeler drilled a three-run home run over the left field fence (CC 4, UHSP 0)
  • T4 (CC): Abigail Pringer hit a two-run bomb to left field (CC 6, UHSP 0)
  • T5 (CC): Columbia scored three times in the inning, as Avgustina Arbova singled home Suzanna Shanks and then scored on a two-RBI single from Jacey Meyer (CC 9, UHSP 0)

Inside the Box:

  • Athena Wheeler went 2-2 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Taylor Barnes, Emily King, Avgustina Arbova, Skyler Kauble, Jacey Meyer and Abigail Pringer had a hit each.
  • Meyer and Pringer had two RBIs a piece.
  • Lexi Dickerson earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings, giving up one hit and striking out 10.

The Scoring:

  • T2 (CC): Emily King homered to left field (CC 1, UHSP 0)

Individual Leaders:

  • Mackenzie Kasarda, Emily King, Avgustina Arbova, and Ella Schouten combined for the Cougars four hits.
  • Ella Schouten tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits and striking out nine.

Up Next:
Columbia hits the road this weekend to face Williams Baptist and Central Baptist. The Cougars take on WBU on Friday, April 8 at 2 and 4:00 PM, followed by a series with the Mustangs on Saturday at 1 and 3:00 PM.
