Softball Remains Unbeaten in AMC Play

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Columbia College softball team remained unbeaten in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play after sweeping a doubleheader against Williams Baptist. The Cougars have now won a season-best eight-straight games.

Columbia: 18-10 (8-0)
Williams Baptist: 13-19 (1-5)
 
Game 1: (21) Columbia def. Williams Baptist, 8-0
The Scoring:

  • T3 (CC): Emily King got things going with a three-run home run to left field, Skyler Kauble added an RBI single to center field. (CC 4, WBU 0)
  • T5 (CC): Karolina Arbova hit into a fielder’s choice, bringing in Suzanna Shanks (CC 5, WBU 0)
  • T6 (CC): The Cougars added three runs in the inning, on the strength of RBIs from Athena Wheeler and Emily King. (CC 8, WBU 0)

 
Inside the Box:

  • Emily King drove in five runs.
  • Mackenzie Kasarda picked up two hits.
  • Lexi Dickerson went six innings in the circle, allowing just five hits and striking out 12 to earn her fourth win of the season.

 
Game 2: (21) Columbia def. Williams Baptist, 6-1
The Scoring:

  • T2 (CC): The Cougars pulled off a triple steal to score the first run of the game, followed by an RBI single from Mackenzie Kasarda, wild pitch that scored Taylor Barnes, and Emily King doubled home a run. (C 4, WBU 0)
  • T3 (CC): Ella Schouten doubled home Avgustina Arbova and scored on a double by Barnes. (CC 6, WBU 0)
  • B5 (WBU): The Eagles ended the shutout on an RBI single to center. (CC 6, WBU 1)

 
Inside the Box:

  • Ella Schouten pitched a complete-game allowing one earned run on six hits and striking out five. Schouten is now 9-3 on the season.
  • Emily King went 3-4 with an RBI and two doubles.
  • The Cougars stole four bases – Taylor Barnes (2), Skyler Kauble (1), and Suzanna Shanks (1).

The Cougars continue their Arkansas road trip, as they face Central Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday, April 9. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM.
