Softball Ends Regular-Season With Doubleheader Sweep Against Hannibal-LaGrange

Hannibal, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team became the second team ever to finish the regular-season with an undefeated American Midwest Conference (AMC) record, joining the 2021 Cougar team.
 
The Cougars have now won 39-straight AMC regular-season games, dating back to 2019. In addition, Columbia has not lost to an AMC team in 45-straight games.

Game 1: (19) Columbia def. Hannibal-LaGrange, 9-0 (6 innings)
The Scoring:

  • T4 (CC): Athena Wheeler hit a solo home run. Later in the inning, Avgustina Arbova singled up the middle, scoring Karolina Arbova (CC 2, HLGU 0)
  • T5 (CC): Mackenzie Kasarda doubled up the middle, scoring Taylor Barnes (CC 3, HLGU 0)
  • T6 (CC): The Cougars busted the game open with a six-run sixth inning, with RBI hits from Skyler Kauble, Taylor Barnes, Kasarda, and Karolina Arbova (CC 9, HLGU 0)

Inside the Box:

  • Athena Wheeler hit her 12th home run on the season, bringing her within two of tying the Columbia single-season record of 14, set by Molly Carter in 2017.
  • Mackenzie Kasarda went 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Lexi Dickerson picked up the win going five innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts.
  • Madison Ramsey tossed the final inning with a strikeout and two ground outs. She retired all three hitters faced.

Game 2: (19) Columbia def. Hannibal-LaGrange, 6-0
The Scoring:

  • T1 (CC): Taylor Barnes scored on an error (CC 1, HLGU 0)
  • T5 (CC): Mackenzie Kasarda homered. Karolina Arbova added an RBI single (CC 4, HLGU 0)
  • T7 (CC): Jayme Stupak scored on an error and Avgustina Arbova drove and RBI single through the left side to cap off the scoring (CC 6, HLGU 0)

Inside the Box:

  • Mackenzie Kasarda went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. ­Kasarda now has a four-game hitting streak, going 9-13 with seven RBIs and five runs scored.
  • Taylor Barnes, Emily King, Karolina Arbova, and Kaylie Kaufman contributed two hits each.
  • Karolina Arbova chipped in with two RBIs.
  • Suzanna Shanks and Barnes had stolen bases.
  • Ella Schouten pitched a complete-game shutout allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

Columbia is off until they host the American Midwest Conference Softball Tournament on May 3-7 at Antimi Softball Complex. The Cougars will face Health Sciences & Pharmacy in round one on Tuesday, May 3. Time is TBA.
