Softball Drops Two Close Contests in Alabama

Gulf Shores, Alabama – The Columbia College softball team played twice today to open the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Cougar offense played strong both games, but Columbia would drop both tight games to Texas A&M Texarkana and Bethel. CC plays two more games tomorrow in Gulf Shores to wrap up the weekend road trip.  

Game One Stat Tracker:
Texas A&M Texarkana def. CC, 5-4

  • Ella Schouten pitched seven innings, finishing with six K’s and zero earned runs 
  • Emily King (1) and Suzanna Shanks (2) both recorded doubles 
  • Suzanna Shanks had one stolen base
  • Athena Wheeler (2), Emily King (1), and Bailey Merritt (1) all accounted for CC’s RBI’s
  • Emily King has six putouts, while Athena Wheeler followed with five and Chesney Luebbering had four

Game Two Stat Tracker:
Bethel def. CC, 13-10

  • Columbia racked up 13 team hits 
  • Abigail Pringer (1), Athena Wheeler (1), Tasia Green (1), and Kylie Kinsler (1) all had doubles
  • Abigail Pringer had one home run 
  • Athena Wheeler had six putouts, while Chesney Luebbering and Suzanna Shanks each had three
