Softball Drops Series Opener to No. 12/12 Arkansas Friday

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri softball program (31-23, 5-17 SEC) fell to No. 12/12 Arkansas (38-14, 14-8 SEC), 9-0, in the series opener Friday night at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Centerfielder Alex Honnold impressed in the contest for Mizzou, going 2-for-2 for her 19th multi-hit game of the season.

The Razorbacks would get on the board in the opening frame, plating two on a RBI single from second base Kristina Foreman.

Arkansas would push across another in the top of the second, as left fielder Raigan Kramer knocked a sacrifice fly to extend the edge to 3-0.

That margin would increase to five in the third, after a RBI double from Foreman followed by a Lauren Camenzind RBI base hit.

The Arkansas lead would swell to nine in the fifth, as the Razorbacks batted around, collecting four runs on five hits, including a pair of doubles to secure the run-rule win.

Chenise Delce picked up the win for Arkansas, allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts for the complete-game shutout.

GAME NOTES

  • Alex Honnold led the Tigers at the dish, going 2-for-2 for her 19th multi-hit game of the campaign.
  • Senior Megan Schumacher fanned a pair in the contest for her third-straight outing with multiple strikeouts. It marked her 19th appearance of the season.
  • Jenna Laird and Payton Jackson each posted walks to extend their reached-base streaks to six and three games, respectively.
  • Jordan Weber was handed the loss, allowing one earned run on four hits with a walk.
  • Emma Nichols made her sixth appearance of the season, earning the final out in the fifth.

Looking Ahead

Missouri will continue the weekend series with No. 12/12 Arkansas Saturday at 4 p.m., CT. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network+.

The Tigers will honor Kendal Cook, Payton Jackson, Addie Lange, Hannah McGivern, Megan Moll, Emma Nichols, Megan Schumacher, and Jordan Weber following the contest for Senior Day.
