Softball Begins AMC Play With Sweep Over Lyon

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 21-ranked Columbia College softball team started American Midwest Conference (AMC) play with a pair of shutout wins against Lyon.

Columbia: 12-10 (2-0)
Lyon: 2-14 (2-2)
 
Game 1: (21) Columbia def. Lyon, 19-0
The Scoring:

  • B1 (CC): The Cougars got off to a fast start, scoring seven runs thanks to a pair of two-run home runs from Athena Wheeler and Abigail Pringer (CC 7, LC 0)
  • B2 (CC): Columbia added eight more runs in their half of the second. Avgustina Arbova, Jacey Meyer, Pringer (2), Taylor Barnes (2), Mackenzie Kasarda, and Wheeler picked up RBIs. (CC 15, LC 0)
  • B3 (CC): A Lyon error, Kylie Kinsler infield single, and a sac fly from Barnes led to three more Cougar runs (18, LC 0)
  • B4 (CC): Karolina Arbova knocked a pitch over the outfield fence (CC 19, LC 0)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Lexi Dickerson went 5.0 innings allowing just two hits and striking out three.
  • Karolina Arbova hit for the cycle with a 4-4 performance. In addition, she scored four times and had two RBIs.
  • Athena Wheeler went 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run.
  • Avgustina Arbova, Jacey Meyer, and Abigail Pringer had two hits each.
  • Pringer recorded four RBIs, while Barnes and Wheeler drove in three apiece.

 
Game 2: (21) Columbia def. Lyon, 6-0
The Scoring:

  • B1 (CC): Karolina Arbova drove in Athena Wheeler, while Avgustina Arbova knocked in Emily King to give CC an early lead. (CC 2, LC 0)
  • B3 (CC): Columbia scored four times, highlighted by a Jodi Polly two-run single. (CC 6, LC 0)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Ella Schouten went 7.0 innings to earn the win. She allowed just two hits and struck out nine.
  • Taylor Barnes, Emily King, Avgustina Arbova, and Abigail Pringer had two hits each.
  • Six different players scored a run.
  • Five different players had an RBI.
  • Avgustina Arbova had the lone extra base hit.
