COLUMBIA, Mo. – Milena Fischer scored her first and second career goals, including the golden goal in overtime, as the Tigers (3-2-0) took down previously-undefeated Notre Dame (4-1-1) by a score of 3-2.
Mizzou got on the board right away in the contest. Only 140 seconds into the match, Milena Fischer added her first goal of the season on a long range shot to the top-left corner of the goal. Julissa Cisneros set her up by playing her into space.
The Tigers did not stop there, however, in the 18th minute, Cassidy Nurnberger added her first goal of the season with the assist going to Blythe Beldner. Mizzou held off the Notre Dame attack for the half and led at the break for the first time during the 2021 season.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou was on the defensive end for the majority of the second half. The Irish were looking to cut into the deficit. The Tiger defense held strong, led by Sophia Worth, Ashlyn Mills and Momola Adesanmi in the middle. In the 72nd minute, Notre Dame earned a penalty kick after a foul in the box. The penalty was saved by Worth, but the rebound bounced directly to Sammi Fisher, who took the PK, and she cut the Tiger lead in half.
Notre Dame was able to level the score late with an 87th minute goal that saw Wingate center the ball to Albert, who was able to drive it home with her right foot.
In overtime, Mizzou was able to put it away. In the sixth minute, Milena Fischer received a pass from Macy Trujillo and, despite losing her footing, drove a right-footed shot into the top right corner past the hands of the diving keeper for the winner.
TOP TIGERS
Milena Fischer added a brace that included the game winner. Both goals were scored from well outside of the 18.
Sophia Worth made five saves on 21 shots faced. She has earned a victory in each career appearance, moving to 3-0.
Cassidy Nurnberger scored her first goal of the season, chipping it right over the head of the keeper with her left foot.
Ashlyn Mills played a career-high 96 minutes at center back and was key to the Tigers holding off the Notre Dame onslaught in the second half.
NOTES
Julissa Cisneros has now recorded a point in three-consecutive matches.
The Tigers have won three-straight matches for the first time since 2019.
Mizzou scored three goals in the contest which is more than Notre Dame had allowed on the season in their previous five matches.
