LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Missouri soccer team lost a close 1-0 game in its final road contest of the regular season at Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Mizzou (5-7-3) outshot Kentucky (9-1-5) in the game, 11-7. However, the Tigers and Wildcats tied with three shots on goal, and UK topped MU in corners earned (5-3).

How It Happened

Missouri challenged right off the whistle, but Kentucky would capitalize early and take the 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute. Mizzou continued to pressure, leading 3-2 in shots at the half. Junior Leah Selm took two of the Tigers’ three shots but could not find the back of the net before the break.

Coming out of halftime, Kentucky continued to press, earning two corners early. Missouri weathered the storm as redshirt sophomore Bella Hollenbach made a crucial save in the 77th minute, keeping Mizzou within striking distance. In the 85th minute, junior Milena Fischer had the Tigers’ best opportunity of the game, a header that the Wildcat keeper had to climb the later to get a hand on. In the end, MU could not convert and dropped their final road contest of the season.

  • Missouri moves to 9-3-2 all-time against Kentucky.
  • Fischer took a season-high four shots in the contest. Sophomore Kylee Simmons had three shots in the second half alone after not registering one in the first stanza.
