Season Ends in Wild Finale at No. 25 Georgia

Luke Mann

ATHENS, Ga. – The final day of the regular season featured a wild back-and-forth affair for University of Missouri baseball, but it was No. 25 Georgia who took the win, 12-11, in walk-off fashion on Saturday afternoon at Foley Field.

In a marathon, four hour and 17-minute game, Missouri (28-23, 10-20 Southeastern Conference) rallied from a 6-1 deficit with a seven-run seventh inning to take a 10-7 lead. Georgia (35-20, 15-15 SEC) got a pair of runs back in the eighth on a two-run home run and then scored a pair in the ninth to take the win.

Four Tigers finished with two RBI in the game. Torin Montgomery, Nander De Sedas and Ty Wilmsmeyer all went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in. Luke Mann added two RBI in a 1-for-3 day at the plate.

IMPACT INNING
Georgia scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to salvage the series finale. A leadoff double from Connor Tate set the table for the Dawgs. After a lineout for the first out of the inning, Parks Harber blooped a single into left field to tie the game. A walk followed to put two aboard before a pitching change.

Austin Troesser got the ground ball he was looking for off the bat of Fernando Gonzalez but the throw to initiate a potential double play sailed into left field, scoring the winning run for the Dawgs.

FROM THE SKIP

Coach Bieser on the end of the season…

“All I can say is God is good and has given me an opportunity; I’m blessed to coach this team because you’ve seen it on the field all season long – they compete and they’re never gonna give in. What a valiant effort today. I’m super proud of these guys and I felt really good going into it. The loss hurts, but those guys laid it all out on line and gave their best.”
