Redford’s Goal Sends Cougars Past Missouri Baptist

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 2-seed and 24th-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team avenged a two-goal defeat at the hands of Missouri Baptist University in the regular season with a 1-0 victory in the semifinals of the 2023 American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament Tuesday at R. Marvin Owens Field.
 
Columbia won its third-straight game to improve to 11-4-4, while Missouri Baptist had its season come to an end at 7-5-5.
 
The Cougars advance to take on No. 1 seed Williams Baptist University on Friday, Nov. 10 in the 2023 AMC Tournament Championship game. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark. Columbia defeated Williams Baptist 2-0 a year ago in the AMC Championship game.
 
Columbia outshot Missouri Baptist 5-4 in the first half, with each team registering a shot on goal. The Cougars had a golden opportunity in the 35th minute after Miguel Gonzalez was left wide open in the box following a long cross, but his shot sailed wide left.
 
After Sidiki Kromah was robbed on a point-blank shot in the 59th minute, it was Carter Redford who took advantage of a misplay by the Spartan defense in the 61st minute to break the scoreless tie and make it 1-0. The goal for Redford was his second of the season. 
 
The Cougars outshot Missouri Baptist 12-9 and had a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Columbia goalkeeper Alejandro Molto Munoz (8-3-3) and the Cougar defense limited Missouri Baptist to two shots on goal en route to its 12th shutout of the season.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series with Missouri Baptist 38-2-3 … Columbia is 6-0-3 at home this season and extended their unbeaten streak to 17 games dating back to the 2022 season … The Cougars are in search of their conference-best 13th AMC Tournament Championship … Both of Redford’s goals this season were game winners … Columbia has won 11 or more games in 15-straight seasons.
