Pinkel Recognition Set For Saturday, Oct. 1

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former University of Missouri football head coach Gary Pinkel will be recognized at Saturday’s game for his 2022 induction into the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame – an on-campus salute presented by Fidelity Investments – and as a 2022 Southeastern Conference Legend.

The Tigers host No. 1 Georgia at 6:30 p.m. at Faurot Field (SEC Network). The ceremony will take place during the first timeout of the first quarter. Limited tickets are available for purchase via mutigers.com/Zou22.

Standing at No. 20 for most wins in Football Bowl Subdivision history at the time of his retirement, Pinkel’s legacy as the winningest coach in school history at both Toledo and Missouri makes him one of only three coaches to hold the distinction at two Division I programs – Bear Bryant (Kentucky, Alabama) and Steve Spurrier (Florida, South Carolina).

He is the first coach from Toledo and the sixth coach from Missouri inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. At the helm of the Tiger program, Pinkel won five conference division titles (Big 12 North – 2007, 2008, 2010; SEC Eastern – 2013, 2014); earned 10 bowl bids (6-4), and finished ranked five times – fourth (2007), fifth (2013), 14th (2014), 18th (2010) and 19th (2008).

The head coach at Toledo from 1991-2000, Pinkel compiled a head coaching record of 118-73 (.618) overall and 64-57 (.529) in conference play (Big 12: 47-42, .528; SEC: 17-15, .531). He was the 2007 National Coach of the Year (FieldTurf) and a two-time league Coach of the Year (Big 12: 2007, SEC: 2014). Pinkel coached 10 first-team All-Americans, three Academic All-Americans, three NFF National Scholar-Athletes and 79 first-team all-conference players.

Pinkel has been inducted into multiple halls of fame, including the State of Missouri Sports, St. Louis Sports Commission, Mid-American Conference, Toledo Athletics, Kent State Athletics and Kenmore High School. Active in the community, he created the GP Made Foundation to help youth facing difficult challenges and he has raised more than $10 million for charitable causes.

The 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 6 at the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
