Offense Explodes in Doubleheader Sweep

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Columbia College baseball team won the first two games of a three-game set against Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Columbia def. Williams Baptist, 17-10 (10 innings)
The Scoring:

  • T1 (CC): Indy Stanley knocked in Braden DeSonia to give Columbia the early lead (CC 1, WBU 0)
  • T2 (CC): A wild pitch and a balk led to two runs for the Cougars (CC 3, WBU 0)
  • T4 (CC): Kole Ficken hit a sac fly and David Dell singled home another run (CC 5, WBU 0)
  • B4 (WBU): The Eagles scored twice in their half of the fourth, including a solo home run (CC 5, WBU 2)
  • T6 (CC): Jarrett Newell hit a solo home run and Tom McKenna drove in three on a home run (CC 9, WBU 2)
  • T7 (CC): DeSonia singled home David Dell (CC 10, WBU 2)
  • B7 (WBU): The Eagles stormed back with eight runs to tie the game (CC 10, WBU 10)
  • T10 (CC): The Cougars erupted seven runs in the 10th, with three coming in on a Ficken three-run home run (CC 17, WBU 10)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Columbia’s one and two hitters (Braden DeSonia and Tom McKenna) combined to go 6-10 with five RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • Kole Ficken recorded four RBIs.
  • Three players had three hits – DeSonia, McKenna, and Devyn Lopez, while David Dell had four knocks.
  • Kaleb Richards earned the win going 3.1 inning allowing just two hits and striking out one.

 
Game 2: Columbia def. Williams Baptist, 14-3 (7 innings)
The Scoring:

  • T1 (CC): Kellen Williamson hit a solo home run (CC 2, WBU 0)
  • T5 (CC): Braden DeSonia singled home a run and scored on a three-run home run from Indy Stanley (CC 6, WBU 0)
  • B5 (WBU): The Eagles scored three times, highlighted by a two-run single (CC 6, WBU 3)
  • T6 (CC): Columbia answered with three runs, with RBIs from DeSonia and Tom McKenna (CC 9, WBU 3)
  • T7 (CC): The Cougars added five more runs, highlighted by a three-run bomb by Riley Poulton (CC 14, WBU 3)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Kellen Williamson led the Cougars with three hits.
  • David Dell and Braden DeSonia added a couple of hits each.
  • Hitters 1-4 combined for nine RBIs.
  • Nine different players scored at least one run.
  • Bryce Taylor earned the win tossing 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and striking out nine.
