No. 8 Wrestling Runs The Show in Norman with 33-3 Win Over Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 8-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team put together a dominant performance in Norman, Okla., topping the Oklahoma Sooners 33-3 Friday, Feb. 3.

Missouri started hot and never took its feet off the gas, taking nine of the ten bouts. Sophomore Noah Surtin started off the dual at 125 pounds with an 8-0 major decision. Redshirt senior Connor Brown (133) followed with a 7-4 decision, while redshirt junior Brock Mauller (149) secured the sudden victory takedown to get the 4-2 decision. Before the break, senior Jarrett Jacques (157) earned a 6-3 decision to put the Tigers up 13-3.

Following the intermission, sophomore Keegan O’Toole (165) got the pin in the second period, claiming his fourth fall of the season. At 174 pounds, redshirt junior Peyton Mocco grabbed his eighth bonus point victory this season with a 12-3 major decision. Earning his third consecutive win, sophomore Colton Hawks won a 4-3 decision. The Elam brothers closed out the night as sophomore Rocky Elam (197) put in work with a 15-4 major decision, while redshirt junior Zach Elam (285) earned a 2-0 decision.

MATCH NOTES

Mizzou moves to 15-42-0 all-time against Oklahoma and has won five of the last six duals against the Sooners

O’Toole extends to 40 consecutive match wins with his second straight fall, and third bonus point victory in as many duals

Mocco records his fifth consecutive bonus point win in a dual with his 12-3 major decision and moves to 15-3. Additionally, the redshirt junior’s 15 wins leads all starters.

Jacques secures a 6-3 decision for his 96th career win, moving closer to becoming the 29th member of the 100-Win Club.

The Tigers travel to Stillwater, Okla. to take on No. 11 Oklahoma State Sunday, Feb. 5. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
