No. 8 Mizzou Softball Faces UIC to Open Columbia Regional

COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Friday, Mizzou Softball will host a NCAA Regional for the first time since 2016. The Tigers are a national seed for the first time since 2016, receiving their highest overall seed since 2013 This is the 11th time in program history that Missouri has hosted an NCAA Regional and the first time it will be played at the five-year-old $17.5M Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Iowa State and Northern Iowa will play in the first game of the day at 1 p.m. on ESPN3. The Tigers will then face off with the Flames of UIC with a scheduled 3:30 p.m. start on ESPN3.

This afternoon, Mizzou had six players named to the NFCA DI Southeast All-Region Team. Jenna Laird and Brooke Wilmes were each named to the first team. Hatti Moore, Kimberly Wert and Abby George were added to the second team and Cayla Kessinger was named to the third team.

The Tigers’ bats have been ferocious throughout the 2021 season. Mizzou has matched a program single-season record in home runs with 82 over the span of 53 games. Six batters have recorded individual career-highs in homers with Hatti Moore leading the way with 17.

Defensively, Mizzou stands seventh nationally with a .981 fielding percentage. Last season, the Tigers finished the shortened year tied for 119th in the nation.

Kendyll Bailey has set new career-highs in hits, runs, doubles, home runs, and RBI. She is also on pace to set career highs in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, and fielding percentage.
