No. 5 Cougars Remain Undefeated at Home

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 5-ranked Columbia College women’s soccer team scored a pair of goals in a span of 17 seconds in the first half as the Cougars remained undefeated at home with a 4-0 win over Stephens College Monday at R. Marvin Owens Field. 
 
The Cougars improved to 6-0 at home this season and extended their unbeaten streak to 17 games dating back to the 2022 season.
 
Columbia moved to 9-1-1 (3-0 AMC) with the win, while Stephens dropped to 3-6-1 (1-2-1 AMC).
 
The Cougars struck first at 17:11 following a foul outside the 18 which resulted in a free kick. Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco sent a cross into the box that Juana Wulff headed into the corner for her fourth tally of the season.
 
Just 17 seconds later, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco fired a shot from the same location that snuck over the keeper’s head to make it 2-0. The goal was her fourth of the season.
 
In the 27th minute, a give and go from Macie Lucas to Madeleine Shylanski resulted in a tally to push the advantage to 3-0.
 
Columbia outshot Stephens 15-1 in the first half and the Cougars took nine corners.
 
Isabella Govero made it 4-0 in the 65th minute after she gathered a loose ball in the box off a corner kick and drilled a shot to the far corner.
 
Columbia outshot Stephens 34-3 and had a 17-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Natalie Allison made three saves for Columbia and kept Stephens off the board as the Cougar defense recorded their seventh shutout of the season. Allison has a 9-1-1 record with a 0.64 goals against average in 11 starts this season.
 
The Cougars play their final non-conference game of the season at Judson University on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Game time is set for Noon in Elgin, Ill.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series with Stephens 15-0 … The goal for Govero was the 25th of her career … The seven shutouts are tied for 13th in the NAIA.
